From this it is clear that opening the default output audio device (and/or the input MIDI device) causes the ALSA library to crash. I followed the instructions in rshann's last comment to edit the denemorc XML file and the results are below the referred comment in the bug report. Denemo 2.5.1 64-bit AppImage does not start on my desktop PC.
